Affordable Textbook Initiatives: How to Get Started

  1. Check with Scott Lloyd, Director of Library Services, to see if any of the books you are currently using are available as an ebook with an unlimited user license, or to check on the availability of ebook licensing for a book you are considering adopting as a textbook.

  2. Contact Julie Flanders, Head of Strategic Collection Services, to place print copies of your textbook on reserve for your course. More information is available on the page Place items on Reserve.

  3. Contact Ruth Monnier, Head of Research & Instructional Services, if you have questions about OER textbooks, or would like assistance with finding suitable OER textbooks or other OER materials for your courses.

  4. Contact Scott Lloyd if you have questions about inclusive access and would like to explore the possibility of adopting inclusive access in any of your courses.

  5. If you are open to selecting a new textbook, try:
    1. searching for a book in the Mount Library’s licensed ebook collections. A list of these collections can be found on this guide's Ebooks section.
    2. searching for ebooks in the MSJ Library’s FOCUS Catalog. (To limit your results to ebooks, first perform a keyword search, then click on “Modify Search,” and then choose “Ebooks” from the “Material Type” pull-down menu.)
    3. searching for an open-access textbook. Links to open-access textbook collections and OER search tools can be found on this guide's Open Educational Resources page.
