Request from OhioLINK

To request items (books or other physical media) not available from the MSJ Library’s collection, follow one of the two methods for searching the OhioLINK Central Catalog.  (Note: for article requests, please use the MSJ Interlibrary Loan Form.)

Method 1--Requesting from OhioLINK:

  • Directly search the OhioLINK Central Catalog by title, author, subject, etc.

  • When you identify the title you’re looking for (if available*), find and click the green “Request” button.
    request item from ohiolink
  • You will be prompted to indicate your school (Mt. St. Joseph University).
Select your school from the list.
  • To complete your request, you will be prompted for your name and LIB # (appears on the front of your MSJ AllCard).  If you do not have your MSJ AllCard, you may securely look up your LIB # by logging into myMount. Please note: your name must follow this pattern--last name comma space first name. For example: Jones, John
Example of LIB ID # on AllCard

(*Note:  if the title you’re seeking isn’t available from the MSJ Library or OhioLINK, then search the SearchOhio catalog and/or complete an Interlibrary Loan Request.)

Method 2--Requesting from OhioLINK:

  • Begin your search in the FOCUS MSJ Library Catalog.

  • Search by title, author, subject, or keyword.
(Beginning with the MSJ Library’s catalog is a good idea because you can double check if the MSJ Library already owns the item you’re seeking.)

  • If your search of FOCUS finds no matches, click on the "Search OhioLINK" button. That will carry your search from FOCUS over to OhioLINK’s Central Catalog. The steps to follow after clicking the "Search OhioLINK" button are exactly the same as method 1 above.
Search OhioLINK if title is not found in FOCUS.
  • When you identify the title you’re looking for (if available*) in OhioLINK’s catalog, find and click the green “Request” button.
    request item from ohiolink
  • After clicking OhioLINK’s green “Request” button, you will be prompted to indicate the school you’re from (Mt.

Picking up OhioLINK Items on Hold:
The MSJ Library’s membership with OhioLINK allows currently enrolled Mount St. Joseph University students, faculty and staff to find and borrow items held in university libraries throughout the state of Ohio. Items requested from the OhioLINK Central Catalog generally arrive to the MSJ campus within 5 to 7 business days. Once library staff receive your OhioLINK items by U.S. Cargo Delivery, they will place your requested items on the hold shelf at the circulation desk in the Library Lobby. You will receive a pickup alert to your MSJ email account. When you arrive at the desk, please present your Mount ID card and the items you have on hold will be checked out to you. Note: items will be kept on the hold shelf for 10 days, after which time they will be removed if not picked up.

Returning Items:
Once you are finished with your items, there is a book return  location directly outside the Library’s exterior doors. Or hand your items to return to the staff at the Circulation Desk when the Library is open.

More Requesting Options

What is SearchOhio?
SearchOhio is a state-wide catalog of items available from Ohio public libraries. (In contrast, OhioLINK offers borrowing from academic libraries.) SearchOhio is an excellent option for finding leisure reading, children's literature, and popular items; whereas, OhioLINK primarily offers content that tends to be more academic or research oriented. As a service, requesting items through SearchOhio works very much like OhioLINK borrowing.

How to request items using SearchOhio:

You can search for titles directly in the SearchOhio online catalog.

Or…

  1. Begin your search in the OhioLINK Central Catalog.  The reason for searching OhioLINK's catalog prior to the SearchOhio catalog is twofold: one, the OhioLINK catalog offers the embedded SearchOhio button as a feature, and secondly, checking OhioLINK's catalog is a good way to ensure you're not overlooking titles already available from OhioLINK.

  2. If you do not find the titles you are looking for after searching OhioLINK's Central Catalog, then look for and click the “SearchOhio” logo near the top of the screen to send your search to SearchOhio.
Shows where to locate the Search Ohio button

  3. Once you have located the item you want in the SearchOhio catalog, click on the “Request” button next to the item.
Example of Request button in Search Ohio

  4. The requesting steps for SearchOhio will look very similar to those for OhioLINK requesting. After clicking the green “Request” button, you will be prompted to indicate the school you’re from (Mt. St. Joseph University). To complete your request, you will be prompted for your lastname and LIB # (appears on the front of your MSJ AllCard). If you do not have your MSJ AllCard, you may securely look up your LIB # by logging into myMount.

Returning items:
Once you are finished with your items, there is a book return location directly outside the Library’s exterior doors. Or bring your items to return to the staff at the Circulation Desk when the Library is open.

What is Interlibrary Loan?

The primary use of Interlibrary Loan is to request either articles that are not already available as full text within the MSJ Library databases, or to request books and other media that are not available from the MSJ Library, OhioLINK, or SearchOhio.  Physical interlibrary loan items, such as print books, generally arrive within 10-14 days; articles arrive electronically in a PDF format sent to your MSJ email account.  For more information about this service, please visit the Interlibrary Loan guidelines.

  • If your search of FOCUS, OhioLINK and SearchOhio finds no matches for the print titles you're seeking, complete the Interlibrary Loan Request Form.
  • If an article you need is not full text, use the Interlibrary Loan link within our research databases, or complete an article request directly with our Interlibrary Loan Request Form.
  • Need help with your request?

What is “Pickup Anywhere”?
In addition to OhioLINK’s regular borrowing service, an option to “Pickup Anywhere” when requesting OhioLINK items allows library patrons to pick up requested items at any participating OhioLINK library location within the state of Ohio.  Choosing a closer, convenient pickup location to home or work is helpful to online students or those who aren't on campus each day.

How to use the "Pickup Anywhere" option:
The default Pickup Institution and Location for Mount library patrons is the Mount St. Joseph University Circulation Desk.  If you want to pick up your item at another OhioLINK library, complete your request as normal within the OhioLINK Central Catalog. However, once at the login screen, use the drop-down menu to change the default Pickup Institution from Mt. St. Joseph University to another OhioLINK Pickup Institution and Location. Then click SUBMIT.
