Due to COVID-19, the MSJ Library has made a number of modifications to its operations and services. This FAQ provides information on the changes that have been made. Please review the following information, and if you have any questions or concerns, contact the Library for assistance.
Q: Is the Mount Library building open?
A: The Library building is currently open by appointment only. If you need assistance with Library services and resources, please contact the Library by email (email@example.com), phone (513-244-4216), or by chat service on the Library’s "Research Help" page. A librarian will respond during regular business hours and help determine the best way to assist you.
Q: What are the Mount Library’s current business hours?
A: MSJ Librarians are responding to email, chat, and phone Monday-Friday 8-5. These are also the hours within which appointments can be made to visit the library. Library hours are subject to change. Please refer to the library homepage for the most recent schedule of operation.
Q: Can I start checking out books and DVDs from the library again?
A: Yes, you can request to borrow books and DVDs by using the request feature in the FOCUS MSJ Library catalog. Look for and click the "Place a Hold" button to login and complete your request.
Once the MSJ Library receives the request, the item(s) you requested will be checked out to your library account. The item(s) will then be packaged in an envelope, and the envelope will be marked with your name and placed on a hold shelf in the hallway just outside the entrance to the library. Note: items will be kept on the hold shelf for 7 days, at which time they will be removed if not picked up.
Note: due to Covid-19, all physical library materials will be subject to a 3-day quarantine period after they are returned to the MSJ Library.
Q: What MSJ Library resources can I remotely access while I am away from campus?
A: The MSJ Library provides a large collection of online resources, including:
These and other information resources are accessible through a collection of 182 databases listed on the Library’s website. You can access all these databases from off-campus using the library number printed on the front of your Mount ID card.
Q: What if I don’t have my Mount ID card or don’t know my library number?
A: If you don’t know your LIB ID barcode number, you can look it up securely in myMount. Note: you will first need to log in to myMount to view the page.
Q: Can I get research help remotely (off-campus) from librarians?
A: Yes, you can request help by visiting the "Research Help" section of the Library's website. Help options available include the new chat reference service, email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or telephone (513-244-4216). Here are some examples of ways that MSJ Librarians can assist you:
Please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance. Our team of MSJ Librarians will take turns monitoring chat, email, and phone during the library’s hours of operation, which are posted on the library homepage. We will try to respond to requests within 24 hours. You may also consult the librarian created subject guides that serve as starting points for research assignments.
Q: I have books checked out from the MSJ Library and/or OhioLINK. What should I do with them? Will I be charged for them if they’re overdue?
A: You may return your library materials to the outside return slot located by the west entrance to the Library building. Or you may return them to the book drop located just to the right of the main entrance to the Library. No charges will be incurred if the materials are returned by August 28, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns about library materials, please contact the Library: email@example.com.
Q: Can I still request interlibrary loans (ILL)? Can I still borrow books from OhioLINK?
A: The Mount Library is currently fulfilling ILL requests for electronic and physical materials. You may submit ILL requests by any of the following ways:
If you request a print book, you will be notified when the book has arrived. The book will be placed on the holdshelf in the hallway by the main entrance to the MSJ Library. Note: books will be kept on the holdshelf for seven days, after which time if they are not picked up they will be returned to the loaning library.
OhioLINK suspended statewide borrowing services in March. Resumption of borrowing services has been tentatively scheduled for August 10. More information about OhioLINK will be posted here as we get closer to the re-start date.
